Free self-check
Confidence or regulation? What's missing may not be missing.
The voice that thins out mid-sentence. The good answer that arrives hours late. The presence that works on calm days and vanishes on hard ones.
Those can mean a capacity you still need to build. They can also mean a capacity you already have, held behind a nervous system that treats visibility and disapproval as threats. From the inside, both feel like “I need more confidence.” The work they call for could not be more different.
This self-check asks about both, separately.

Answer for the last few months, not for today. And answer honestly rather than aspirationally. You will get one of four reflections at the end. Not a diagnosis. Not a score.

What this measures, and what it does not
Six questions ask about capacity at your best. The conversations that flow when you feel at ease. The judgment you trust on good days. The room you can hold when nothing is bracing.
Six ask how much of that stress takes away. The state that flips on a frown. The abilities that go out of reach after a setback. The good day that gets decided by everything except you.
Keeping them separate is the whole point. Confidence advice treats every gap as a capacity gap. But a capacity that is present on good days and gone under pressure is not missing — it is gated, and gates respond to different work than gaps do.
What it is not: a validated instrument, a screening tool, or anything that can tell you what you have. There are no norms behind it and no clinical scoring. It is a structured way of noticing your own patterns. That is genuinely useful, and it is a different thing from an assessment.
Questions people ask
- Isn't confidence just something you practice?
- Skills are something you practice. Access is not. Many people already have the capacities they are trying to train — the ease, the judgment, the presence — but only on days their nervous system permits it. Practicing harder does not open that gate, because the gate is not a skills problem. This self-check exists to help you notice which of the two you are actually dealing with.
- Is this a personality test or a diagnostic tool?
- Neither. There are no norms behind it, no clinical validation, and no claim about who you are. It cannot diagnose anxiety or anything else — only a qualified clinician can assess that. It is a structured way of noticing your own patterns across two questions people rarely separate, and its result is a reflection, not a label.
- What should I do with my result?
- Treat it as a pointer at the right layer. If your capacities are present but stress-gated, confidence training aims at the wrong target, and the work is about the state underneath. If stress dominates everything, the honest move is to settle the system before assessing yourself at all. And if your capacities came back quiet on a calm system, that is ordinary growth territory, not a defect.
- Do you store my answers?
- No. Everything happens in your browser, nothing is sent anywhere, and no email is required to see your result. Close the tab and it is gone.
